🌸 Hello! My name is Emily

I am a product designer in Seattle who previously worked in healthcare and accessibility. Working in healthcare has exposed me to many issues which drove me to want to cultivate change on a larger scale for my patients and coworkers.

Within the 4 years of being in my current role, I have seized several leadership opportunities including

  • launching an accelerated surgical recovery workflow

  • initiating a department education team

  • serving as a mentor for six colleagues

🚀 My Journey from Healthcare to Design

As a self starter, I thrived in these leadership roles. This led me to realize that I aspire to solve bigger problems.

When surgeries were restricted during the pandemic, I spearheaded a protocol to safely and quickly discharge patients after surgeries. This new recovery pathway allowed surgeons to reopen operating rooms while the hospital conserved resources for COVID patients.

  • I established a screening test to determine when a patient has physically recovered enough from their spinal anesthesia to initiate his/her physical therapy training.

  • I helped design the patient flow from second-stage recovery to discharge home (or inpatient admission)

  • I served as the lead coordinator to ensure discharge requirements were met at maximal efficiency for all fast-track patients of the day.

This workflow is still in place post-pandemic to continue to optimize hospital resources and increase revenue.

What I Can Bring to Your Team

Coming from the healthcare field where teamwork and compassion are core defining values, I bring a unique human perspective to the tech industry.

The skills I had practiced as a physical therapist make me a better UX designer:

  • Empathizing with and advocating for my patients

  • Evaluating patients’ pain points

  • Thinking critically in a high risk environment

  • Designing individualized care plans based on each patient’s unique circumstances

  • Communicating with different stakeholders and team members

UX is the perfect role for me because I get to take parts of what I enjoyed most in my last role into an environment that is exhilarating.
